Cosmic Curiosity

Workshops are a great way for kids to spend their time over the weekend. We have lots that are highly collaborative – perfect for exploring the themes of friendship and teamwork for children. They will push their boundaries, let them try something they’ve never done before and, most importantly, have a bit of fun!

No glue, no screws and no clips, but the stability of stone… welcome to the wonderful world of Kapla. Learn about geometry, maths, physics concepts, gravity, symmetry, ratio, engineering, sequencing and problem solving. Join this truly fascinating workshop and immerse yourself in all kinds of structures, including monumental constructions! Perfect for the whole family.

Are you ready for a truly unforgettable experience? Why not start the day with a stimulating, powerful energiser to wake you up. Boomwhackers are coloured tubes that create different harmonic tones when played. If you are looking for something different, this is it! Something for all the family to enjoy from our wonderful friends at Unbeatable Energy.

The Pentagon is a stunning freestanding installation, swathed in attention-grabbing, hand-drawn designs that are just begging for some colour. Children and adults alike are drawn to this exciting artistic adventure, its creative scope is bounded only in the imagination of passers-by – who can’t resist joining in.

A family disco with a difference led by professional dancers, Ruth and Clare and DJ Matt Worden ….do your own dance moves…learn some new dance moves? All to some great tunes….everyone welcome. Happily steering clear from the oft-repeated patronising staple at ‘kids discos’. This is definitely a family dancing affair – and an ever-growing audience are loving it!

Roll up, roll up! Spin a plate, juggle some balls, throw a diabolo, twirl some flower sticks, there is so much to learn and we have just the people to show you. A massive welcome back to the wonderfully talented Greentop Circus who will be running workshops throughout the day. Drop in, perfect your skill and let your imagination run away with the circus!

Come and play on your hands! All ages welcome. This workshop will provide some fun and safe exercises to help you build strength and balance upside down. Taught by Leeds’ professional handstand teacher George, who has worked with Cirque du Soleil artists. The session will provide you with tips and tricks that they have picked up over their years of training.

When Sam takes time off from his various musical projects (appearing with Sam Kelly & The Lost Boys and Kate Rusby this weekend) he is a keen forager and explorer of wild spaces, with a particular interest in mycology and wild food. Join Sam and fellow nature enthusiasts on a walk around the festival site – identifying toxic and edible plants, fungi, and chatting about foraging and wild cooking. Perfect activity for the whole family.

Join this session for an afternoon of willow weaving to help create six large scale lanterns that will house solar lights and hang from trees around the site. You will be weaving to a set pattern but any ability can come, great for a family activity. This is an environmentally friendly and fun workshop you can really get your teeth into.

Laura Taylor has been surrounded by music her entire life and from an early age knew that music was her passion. Join Laura as she offers workshops to learn songs in various genres and disciplines. Workshop members do not have to be able to read music, the songs will be taught aurally and visually. The session is both ideal for beginners – as an introduction to singing – and for more experienced singers, extending repertoire and different working methods.

The Penistone Folk Ensemble is a concert and ceilidh band under the musical direction of Chris McShane. They meet at St Andrew’s Church in Penistone and are always on the lookout for new players. All instruments are welcome. Get ready for an energetic evening full of dance, all ages welcome. Your callers will be Huw & Terry Evans.
